I have to be honest! I was NOT the MVP of the State Tournament…I did play on the State Champion Dimmitt Bobcats but I was selected to the THIRD team All-State because I played on the State Champion…The memories are rich and comforting and we are one year from the 50th anniversary of our championship!

Many kudos for capturing athletic competition so exquisitely in words!! For this dad, who is riding along with his 28-year-old daughter for 5 hours next weekend to watch the Indiana Fever (in the spirit of your essay, Caitlin Clark is one of five starters😊), tears misted in my eyes and warm emotion filled my heart. The son of a school administrator, my childhood home sat across the road from the high school. Basketball players committed to improvement would stop by on summer weekends to pick up the key to the gym, then would return it afterward. No worry of triggering an alarm, no concern about public liability. Thanks for sharing!!
Our house was similarly situated and we were also keepers of the gym key! Great memories all around. Thank you for sharing! And, agreed on Caitlin Clark—she’s incredible to watch!
Mom paced so hard I'm surprised she didn't wear out the wood of the bleachers!!! "Cassie Sue!" in her voice still rings in my ears any time I'm in a gym!
